Do You Always Wear A Helmet?
I think we can all agree on the importance of wearing a helmet while riding. I must admit it’s something I know I should always do, but don’t. Although this year I have vowed to wear my helmet each time I get on the bike. I have worn many different brands of helmet including Shoei, Bell and yesterday I purchased a Nolan. Let me ask you, “Do you always wear a helmet? What brand do you prefer?”
I always wear my helmet. I feel naked without one at this point. I personally hate riding without a helmet. Some say it takes away from the experience. I don’t see how sound damaging wind noise, bugs and rocks add to the experience positively. But, hey that’s me. I’m usually riding for 400-500 miles at a time so from that style of riding the idea of riding without a helmet is torture. For those who are riding short distances here and there I could see their perspective.
I am using a Scorpion EXO-700. Nice ventilation and not too loud (although I wear ear plugs so my testimony on noise levels are probably biased anyways).
How’s the Ninja for riding 500 miles? I have a friend who recently purchased one and loves it.
Always…
Umm and it is a sickness, I own well about 12 of them. If someone you can only wear one which would it be? It would be my Scorpion EXO-700 Black Dahlia. I find my Black Dahlia to be one of the quietest helmets I own.
Recently I found a very cool helmet, a GMAX 68s Crusader (pink). 9 intake vents with 10 exhaust vents.
I tried it once in Montana. It was fun until I had to stop short for a deer.
I will ALWAYS wear a helmet. I have two. I wear my 3/4 helmet with pull down visor when it’s cold and I want to cover ears and face better. I usually wear my 1/2 helmet during the summer. Even a simple mistake could lead to serious injury, and it usually happens when you least expect it. Ride safe. Lady R.
I always do. I have an aversion to head trauma.
I have a Harley half helmet and an HJC full-faced modular helmet.
Well put Micah!
I guess that I will have to be the lone helmet-less rider in this discussion. Yes, I know that it’s probably stupid. Yes, I know that a helmet may prevent a head trauma in the case of an accident. But in the state of Wisconsin, I’m still allowed to make the choice for myself and I just don’t like wearing them. I tried. I don’t like the confined feeling of a helmet or the way that it whips my head around in the wind. I like the feeling of the rain on my head and the wind in my face. I don’t look down on anyone for wearing a helmet and you folks will probably outlive me but that’s my choice.
I totally understand your perspective, and you are right it is a choice. As I mentioned there have been times I didn’t wear a helmet either, so no one here is throwing stones!
I agree 100% it is ones right to wear or not wear one if the law applies. I would never tell someone what to do…
What has cemented it for me was when I had my accident this past fall, I literally saw my face hit the road. With no helmet I would be dead. So I sine tend to like my present breathing state I will keep wearing one.
Now before my accident I was a short and t-shirt rider… by the grace of God that day I wore an armored jacket, boots and jeans.. whew! So another never again was added to my list.. no more short riding
I will miss it but I am scarred up pretty well and I had some gear on.

The picture you see was THROUGH a jacket with armor..
In MA we have a helmet law, so when I got to a state that doesn’t have one I confess I will go helmet-less given the opportunity. Maybe not 100% of the time, but there’s something really nice about riding scenic, tree-lined roads with the wind whipping through your hair.
That’s what I’m talkin’ about Liz! Only a biker knows the reason why dogs stick their heads out the car window.
I do have to admit that I keep the rest of my body pretty well covered up while riding though. Always boots. Never shorts. Kinda strange how I’m willing to keep my most vulnerable body part (my head) uncovered though. Hmm…
I wear helmets all the time now. When I was in California, before the helmet came to be. I wore one 90% of the time. Those little trips to the store or just around corner was my problem. For as helmet laws go, I don’t need law to tell me to wear a helmet!
