7 Things I Appreciated About The R1100RT
Now that I have some miles under my belt with the R1100RT. Here’s a few things I appreciated about this bike.
1. Heated hand-grips: they were great while riding in the very early morning, or late evening.
2. Power adjusting windshield: So much flexibility.
3. Travel bags: easy on and off, waterproof, fairly large, convenient for one night stays.
4. Fog lamps: great for those late nights on deserted highways.
5. Comfort: The riding set up can be so diverse, gives a lot of flexibility.
6. Large gas tank: Allowed me to get into a sustained rhythm without continually stopping for fuel.
7. Speed/Power: Although there are many bikes with more power, 94 horsepower is plenty for my type of riding.
One thing I didn’t like about the BMW…
1. The chicks think I am a weenie!
Rick,
Six things I don’t like about my custom Harley:
1. No Heated hand-grips: Not so good while riding in the very early morning, or late evening.
2. No Power adjusting windshield: no flexibility.
3. No Travel bags: I have saddle bag envy.
4. No Fog lamps: No bonus for those late nights on deserted highways.
5. Not very Comfortable on those long rides due to lack of cushion on low profile seat and having only forward controls.
6. Small 3.5 gallon stretched teardrop gas tank: Does not allowed me to get into a sustained rhythm without continually stopping for fuel.
Two things I do like about the Custom Harley:
1. Plenty of Speed/Power: Although there are many bikes with more power, mine has plenty for my type of riding.
2. Chicks dig it!
I’d guess Michelle is happy that chicks think you’re a weenie. One of the things I like about my Harley Ultra Classic is it came with cordura bags inside the saddle bags and tour pack. They do make it easy to carry your gear into the Motel or camp. I’ve changed the clear lights on the light bar to Amber Fog lamps and I feel they not only help in fog, but add to the visibility factor. I can no longer ride for much more than sixty to a hundred miles or so, before I have to get off the bike and move around. So, I doubt even the Beemer would alleviate the aches of advancing arthritis. There have been times I would have liked heated hand grips.
You’ve got to ride what you like, and that is definitely not the same for all of us.
Heated grips are an option I absolutely want to have on my next bike. Is there a woman out there who doesn’t love a nice Harley? Probably. Lucky for me the ladies like me anyway. My windshield does not adjust, either powered or manually, and for the life of me I can’t conceive of why in hell anyone would want or need to adjust a windshield on a motorcycle. Please explain this one to me; I just don’t understand it. The windshield does come off however, and the quick-detach feature is one I do like having. Within a month, it’ll be staying in my garage until fall. My saddlebags don’t come off, but they do lock, and I’d be lost without them.
My new Mustang seat has made my Harley as comfortable as it gets, and my new highway pegs allow me to adjust my position when I want to. I have a 4.5 gallon tank, the biggest ever on a Sportster, and have gone over 160 miles w/o going on reserve. I guess the only thing I don’t have are fog lamps. I guess I’ll suffer until next year when I get my new bike, which will be equipped with auxilliary lamps. Foggy mountain breakdown anyone??
Mr. Motorcycle: No doubt about it you are the man!
Steve: Michelle is very happy about the chick thing! I agree with amber fog lights I think they do a better job than the clear lights. Asthetically I do not like them as well, but I do believe they do a better job.
Joker: I don’t think anyone actually needs a windshield that adjust. I’ve lived just fine w/o one, but since my current bike came so equipped I figured I should take advantage of it. I simply like the ability to easily regulate the amount of air flow I feel based on the everchanging riding conditions, temperature, or speed. For me it beats the all or nothing of a static shield. That’s all
I think the adjustable windshield thing is really cool.
I’ve been considering the RT for sometime now for all of the same reasons that you list, however, whenever I walk into the dealership, I always gravitate towards the GS. Only time will tell which boxer I choose when the time comes. This could be a while as I have a gift for procrastination.
