The Things Women Do.
In recent days I have had significant opportunity to observe more than one woman looking extremely uncomfortable on the back of a motorcycle. I’m certain there are many woman who love being on the back of the bike, and enjoy it immensely. However, it seems a great number of woman are simply trying to do something to appease their significant other, and not because they enjoy it. The pained look on many of their faces seem to indicate they would love to be anywhere else but here. Can’t say I blame them…
- You sit on a 4″x5″ foam pad.
- You have very little if anything to hold on to.
- Peer pressure to look the sexy biker chick fantasy.
- Your hair blowing in your face, eyes, everywhere else.
I know it’s not really any of my business, but I have to say, “I felt sorry for many of these woman”.
Maybe that’s why I ride my own. But, I will have to say, depending on the bike your riding double on, some are pretty damned comfortable. When Harley and were riding double on the Electra Glide, with our tour pack on, there has been a time or two I almost fell asleep! No joke! I was pretty comfy.
I see and agree with both points.
Anyone riding on the back of my bike will be begging to get the Hell off in about 30-50 miles, tops.
I have a couple of friends with touring bikes that have wive’s that actually do fall asleep.
I agree with the first two points, but as for peer pressure, if they haven’t outgrown that by now they have bigger issues. Also my hair is long, and it never blows in my face, they have great products to keep it back.
I ride with Dave because I love it, even when it is uncomfortable. As for the women who are only doing it because it is something that makes their significant other happy…I say good for you! Sometimes we make sacrificies for the ones we love, and I only hope they get the same consideration in return.
Perhaps I have misread this woman thing! Next time I won’t feel so sorry for these brave souls!
I have never wanted to ride on back but when we had to one day I did like it. Obvious benefit, holding on to Pete. But I don’t see us riding two up very often just because I like riding my own so much.
But I understand BB’s position as well.
Welcome back Maggie!
Thanks Rick, just trying to get caught up!
I gotta say I probably look pretty damned uncomfortable on the back of Jay’s bike sometimes…but only one of your “bullets” has anything to do with it (the 4 x 5 pad). The biggest thing though is long distances/times on the back without a break. The bitch seat isn’t too bad for 45 min, but more than an hour I want to die! Another issue is that you cannot move. Sure you could shift your body forward or back, or even twist to the side. But your legs are stuck in pretty much the exact same position. When riding your own bike you can stretch your legs out on highway pegs for a few minutes or whatever. About the only circulation I can get is by twisting my feet sideways on the pegs and turning my knees out almost perpendicular tot he bike! (yeah, like that’s comfy!!)
