Riding Route 66

0628081805.jpgOn Saturday evening my wife and I, attended a wine tasting event sponsored by the Springfield Art’s Festival.  It was a lovely summer night filled with good food, good wine, and good music.  One of the numbers played by the band, Good Vibrations, was “Route 66″, people were singing, dancing, and thoroughly enjoying themselves.  As the song played, I remembered that Riding Route 66 Motorcycle Tour was leaving  to ride the famous Route 66.  The tour was to head out of Chicago on June, 28th, and concludes July, 12th.  I personally think this would be a fantastic way to spend the summer.   I may have to add this to my To Do list.   Is it just me or does anyone else think this would be a great ride?

It looks like an awesome ride, but a two week vacation is not anywhere in my future. Let alone the time it would take me to get to the starting point of this tour.

I officially put the RT66 ride on my “Bucket List” this year. I plan to make the trip in 2009 or (more likely) 2010. I want to spend two weeks riding to CA, taking my sweet time and enjoying the locations, then ship the bikes back to Ohio.

I have been told that it is a boring ride; too many traffic lights and too much city driving. But, I love to ride and I am going to do it. Let me know if you want in on the planning and someone to ride with. I only have one guy so far who wants to do it.

I would also like to ride the Pacific Coast Highway someday. Another item for my “Bucket List”.

I will certainly be giving this trip some thought. I imagine it isn’t the most exciting ride in the world, but it would be great to share in the history of the famed road.

Living in Missouri we ride along Old Hwy 66 a lot! As a matter of fact this up coming weekend we are going t Devil’s Elbow, MO. A town that has been forgotten with the *closure* of Rte 66. But would be great to go from Chicago all the way to LA!
