1. Entering the curve too fast.
2. Using the rear brake too much.
3. Focusing on what you are about to hit.

Good bits of advice.
Thanks for the picture! Priceless! LOL!
When I was an inexperienced rider and had my first crash I did all 3 of these things. I entered a curve too fast (for my skills at the time), then used the rear brake too much causing it to lock, and then having gotten freaked out by the locking rear tire I fixated on the side of the road and down I went!
Luckily I slowed down to about 10MPH. No injuries and only scratches on the bike, but a good learning experience. Immediately after I sat down and thought to myself “What did I do wrong?” and these 3 items came up. Good list!
We have got to send that picture to Joker!!!
Thanks Diana!
I’m always glad to know you’re thinking of me. I’ve never crashed on a corner, but if I was going to, I’d say that might just do it!
Sorry, but I had to jump in with a clarification of the “too fast” thing. Most riders aren’t riding too fast for their bike’s abilities. They’re going too fast for their sight distance. Most fatalities happen in the last third of the curve. What that means is that riders are surprised by where the road goes or what’s in the curve. They either go wide and run off the road or cross over into oncoming traffic.
When you boil it down, doesn’t our visual information set everything else? Our entry speeds, our line, etc.
Ok, I’ll be quiet now.
irondad; Thanks for expanding on my first point. I agree that our vision is primary in gathering proper info.
Good info and cute visual!
