It’s Easier Than Ever To Get On A BMW.
For years, serious riders have always chosen to step up to a BMW Motorcycle. However, if these riders are on the shorter side, sometimes they wind up “stepping up” to a BMW bike in more ways than one. But that’s no longer an issue for anyone who’s lusting after an R 1200 GS, R 1200 R, R 1200 RT or F 800 ST because each of those bikes is now available with a Lower Suspension option, which includes a Low Seat option. Available for just $175, this package lowers the seat height on the R 1200 GS to 31.1 inches, 29.5 inches on the R 1200 R and R 1200 RT, and 29.9 inches on the F 800 ST. Now riding any of these bikes is easier and more comfortable than ever.

Fortunately for me, this is not a problem. With my inseam, I feel that these bikes were built the perfect height for lanky folks like myself, I’ll take the R1200GSA please. However, I think that this is a brilliant idea on BMW’s part. I recall reading in Cecilie Hoffmans blog about the great lengths that she had to go to just to lower her R1200GS to height that was suitable for her.
I am 6′ tall and my RT is set up perfectly for me. When touring, I raise the seat to it’s heighest level which gives me the maxium leg extension. I agree! It is a very good move for BMW.
Im 5″1 and love the fact that BMW offers the low seat, I drive the F 650 and Im still on tip toes with the lowest suspension, but I never bought the lowering kit and Im glad I learned to drive with it on the lowest setting before the kit. But there are times I do wish it was just a little lower.
