2 of My Favorite Things

I am the luckiest guy alive!  On Sunday, I did two of my favorite things in the entire universe;  hang out with my boys, and ride motorcycles.  It was “Family Day” at Findlay University, and with my wife out of town, Jonathan and I, rode our bikes up.  We left Springfield at 9:00 a.m. riding through the thickest fog I have seen since last fall.

We arrived in Findlay around 11:00 a.m. and got Ethan out of bed.  After hanging around the dorm for a while , we headed off  for some lunch, then to take in the newly released film;  “Righteous Kill“, with Al Pacino and Robert De Nero.  (You talkin’ to me?)  Great flick, you have to go see it!

It was good for Jonathan and Ethan, to see each other, they miss one another more than they anticipated.  Around 8:00 p.m. we said our good-byes then headed home!

The two hour ride seemed only a few miles, as I thought about how fast the boys have grown into men , and how proud I am of them both. It was a good day.  It was a really good day!

Checking Up On My Investments

I am off!  It’s Family Weekend at the University of Findlay so I am riding North to see Ethan.  I am curious to see what my $$$$ are paying for.  So far it sounds like a lot of alcohol and hot girls. :)

Where I Live

While wasting time this morning, I began playing around with the google maps. Not that you care, but here’s where I live. How far do I live from you?

Missing the Ole’ Cruiser

0925080843.jpg

It has been a long while since I have ridden a cruiser, but needing to run an errand last night, and my son’s Yamaha V-Star 1100, available, I decided “what the heck”!  So I borrowed the key and off I went.  Here’s a few differences between the two bikes…

1.  The Cruiser sets much lower.  I dragged the foot pegs in my first corner.  Sorry Jonathan!

2.  The Cruiser’s handlebars are much wider.   Felt like I was about to hug a barrel, or the old girlfriend from High School.

3.  The Cruiser is much louder!  Jonathan has Vance and Hines exhaust, while most of the time people ask me if the RT is even running?

4.  The Cruiser turns me into a sail.  With the windshield removed for summer riding, I forgot what it was like to be hit with gale force winds.

5.  The Cruiser gets a totally different reaction from onlookers.  The young chicks dig it, but Hey, I do get some shout-outs when passing the nursing home while on the BMW.  I will take what I can get!

It was actually a great deal of fun and caused me to miss the old cruiser.  Maybe I need to start shopping for a second bike! (Hope the bride doesn’t read this!)   Anyone have trouble getting used to another bike?

Rambling News

From Triumph

Triumph Upgrades TwinsWith Electronic Fuel InjectionNEWNAN, Georgia – September 8, 2008:  Triumph announced that all new 2009 parallel twin engine platforms will include electronic fuel injection (EFI).  This new technology affects all the Modern Classics: Bonneville, Bonneville T100, Scrambler, and Thruxton. The America and Speedmaster, in the Cruiser range, also receive this upgrade.  Triumph has been able to preserve the classic look of the engine while the technologically advanced internal engine design has been modified to accommodate the EFI update. The fuel injectors have been skillfully hidden by throttle bodies designed to look like carburetors. The fuel injected engine produces a perfect balance of efficiency and performance while maintaining its exceptional fuel economy. The 2009 parallel twin engine maintains its classic look with polished fins and remains true to its heritage. The changeover from carburetors to electronic fuel injection is in direct response to the European emissions legislation.  In 2009 all the Triumph parallel twin powered models in North America receive this update which exceeds Euro 3 as well as EPA and CARB emissions standards. The precise metering of fuel delivers a more environmentally friendly motorcycle.

I think I would like to take advantage of one of the many AMA riding events here’s the schedule 2009 AMA Tour Schedule Released

Bad-ass Alright!

An iconic looking figure.  A man of tall stature, dressed in black leathers head to toe.  He had the right boots, right bandanna, the right rings.  He struts past me giving me a cold hard stare.  He mounts the chromed out Deuce, she fires with a perfect tone.  He pulls in the clutch, sets her in gear, and slowly pulls away.  Five feet later, he drops her and she slides into the corner of the building.  Bad-ass for sure!

One of those Really Good Days

Sipping my first cup of coffee as I sit down to write this post.  I can feel the cool air gently blowing through the partial raised window.  Looks like another gorgeous day!  I spent most of Wednesday cleaning up my yard in the aftermath of Sunday’s windstorm.  With nothing pressing, and in no hurry to complete the task, I enjoyed a couple cigars as I leisurely went about the clean up effort.  When my wife came home from work we jumped on the RT and rode for an hour and half.  It was a cool and quiet ride as we enjoyed one another’s company and the beautiful scenery, enhanced by a brilliant, setting sun.  One of those really good days!
