1982 Yamaha Seca 650

While riding home from dinner this evening, I passed a motorcycle parked in a front yard with a “For Sale” sign on it.  I have been looking for another around town rider, so I decided to stop.  The bike was 1982 Yamaha Seca 650, and with in minutes of my arrival the owner came out and briefed me on this motorcycle’s history.  Seems he is the Yamaha’s second owner and has the owners manual, the original tool kit, the windshield, as well as some service records.  The Seca has 30,000 miles on it and at a cursory glance is in fairly good condition.  I will do a little research on it tomorrow and who knows, may have another ride in the stable by days end.  Any wisdom?

I’ve heard they are a low maintenance shaft drive bike. The turbo version got most of the press and this model quietly did its job in the background. The secret of happiness with a bike like this is to accept it for what it is. These old bikes suffer in comparison to the modern stuff. They need to be appreciated on their own merit, as I’m sure you know!

Well said! We have a 1985 Nighthawk and certainly agree with your comments. For some reason I love the old style bikes. At least to ride around town. :)

I had an ‘82 Seca 650 and loved it. Great bike. Very low maintenance and a real pleasure to ride.
