Saddle Sore 1000: Begins Saturday Morning

Early Saturday morning I will leave Springfield, to begin my Saddle Sore 1000 ride.  The “Saddle Sore”, is the entry level ride sponsored by the world famous, Iron Butt Association, and consists of riding a minimum of 1000 miles in a 24 hour period.  A rider needs witnesses for both the beginning and the end of the trip, as well as other time stamped documentation.  These records are then submitted to the IBA for an investigation.  Once verified, the ride will be sanctioned by the IBA.

The route I have chosen will take me west on Interstate 70, through Indianapolis, Indiana, St. Louis, Missouri, and just east of Kansas City.   I will stop at a small town; Boonville, Missouri, which is 516 miles from my starting point, and my halfway destination.  Here I will fuel, document my stop, and head back toward Springfield.

Several of our readers have already completed this ride, and I thank you for your advice.

I will be updated my progress in real time on Facebook. If you care to follow.

I wish you good fortune and travel mercies as you ride Rick. I can’t imagine riding that far in just 24 hours. The furthest I’ve ridden in one ’sitting’ was 466 miles from Springfield, to Toronto. I did put another 30 or so miles on after a shower and change of clothes, just to see the city. I’ll be praying for you to ‘Keep The Rubber Side Down”.

Mr. Rick: Best of luck on your adventure. Ride safe, have fun and may you have good weather to ride in. I too have a SS1000 route planned and hope to get it completed yet this year.

Best of luck to ya! Are you doing it solo? If all goes well, a fellow west-coast-blogger and myself will be doing the SS1000 later this year.

Ride safe! Looking forward to reading about your journey.

Take it from me, as I’m an ass, you’re gonna need some anti-monkey butt powder/gel/panties on your trip. Maybe your “8 things…” post will need an update on Monday.

    Stay safe. Jealous.
