Biker Coffee Company

header_sub.jpg

Being a coffee lover, I was stoked when I recently ran across the very cool folks at Bikers Coffee Company, located in Ottawa, Ontario Canada.  I was so impressed with the company, I thought you might like to learn more about them.  Wayne Leroux, a.k.a “Rigid,” the guru of Sales & Marketing, Corporate Graphics, and Web Design, for the company fielded a few of my questions about Bikers Coffee Company.  Thanks for your time Wayne!

When did the Biker Coffee Company begin and why?

Biker Coffee Company began in 2008 with the concept of fellow Biker’s riding to their favorite coffee stop. In the end Biker’s and coffee go hand in hand, so why not offer a premium custom blend just for them, and lets face it Bikers love having something to call their own.
As we researched more and more we found the majority of coffee’s offered around town were generic off the self blends. We then began to think green by ensuring our beans were Organic, Shade Grown, Fair Trade and of the highest standards and quality.

What is the mission of your company?

Our mission is to supply Premium Organic Fair Trade Coffee to a niche market of enthusiasts at a fair price.

For those who may not know, what is fair trade coffee?

Fair Trade is an organized social movement and market-based approach that aims to help producers in developing countries and promote sustainability. The movement advocates the payment of a higher price to producers as well as social and environmental standards. It focuses in particular on exports from developing countries to developed countries, most notably handicrafts, coffee, cocoa, sugar, tea, bananas, honey, cotton, wine, fresh fruit, chocolate and flowers.

Fair Trade’s strategic intent is to work with marginalized producers and workers in order to help them move towards economic self-sufficiency and stability. It also aims to allow them to become greater stakeholders in their own organizations, as well as play a wider role in international trade. Fair Trade proponents include a number of international development aid, social, religious and environmental organizations such as Christian Aid, SERRV International, Oxfam, Amnesty International, Catholic Relief Services, and Caritas International.

Stop Waving at Other Bikers! and Other Crap!

n498676_girls022preview.jpgGood Sunday morning to you!  Looks like a beautiful day is in store for us and I have a jam packed schedule.

  • Watch MotoGP race at Lemans.
  • Watch World Superbike race at Kyalami .
  • Finish working in my mother in-laws yard.
  • Pick up my digital voice recorder  (Olympus  W321m).
  • Summer haircut, a buzz job. (I said buzz job people!)

My wife is trying to talk me into taking her to Bob Evans for breakfast, I told her to get in the kitchen and make me some flapjacks.  The swelling in my eye should go down soon!

  • Has anyone noticed the rising price of .380 ammo?
  • Harley shirts make me look fat.  Hell, they make everyone look fat!
  • Is it wrong to go to a motorcycle race then stay in the Paddock area to check out the chicks?
  • Why are all tree trimmers related?
  • Would anyone like to buy me the new and improved  190 hp, BMW S1000RR?
  • Would anyone like to buy me anything?
  • Going to stop waving at other bikers!
  • Where’s my book Jack?  No seriously!
  • Did I mention I am working a book?
  • KTRSD needs a logo.
  • Do you think I have had too much coffee?
  • I want a goatee like Biker Swag.

Got to go heading to Bob Evans!  :)

MC Therapy

I took a few hours off on Wednesday to visit a couple motorcycle stores in the Columbus area. I jumped on the bike around 8:00 a.m. and headed 70 east at a steady and leisurely pace. An hour later I arrived at my first stop, BMW of Columbus, a small BMW store around Capital University. I spent some time looking at a few of my favorite motorcycles and picked up a new hat. Back on the bike I headed toward Westerville, but looking at motorcycles is tough work so I stopped at Bob Evans for a stack and coffee. Next store, The Iron Pony, a motorcycle apparel and parts superstore. This a candy shop for the biker enthusiast and I spent a couple of hours just wandering up and down every aisle in the place. Soon it was time to head back to Springfield and back to work. The ride home was a much faster pace as I wanted to experiment with the handling of my new ride. Great ride, and great to be away for a few hours!

Definitions of Biker Terms

Good Sunday morning to all of you!  In Springfield, the wind chill is nearing 15 below zero.   But don’t feel sorry for me.  I have a roaring fire in the fireplace, a pot of  strong black coffee brewing, my morning paper, and a great Oliva cigar!  I will be just fine.  Every Sunday in the month of January we are doing a feature entitled; ”Definitions of Biker Terms”, here’s this weeks term…

Squiddy:  Literally a “suicidal kid”.  A young motorcyclist with little or no riding experience riding a sport bike with a lot of horsepower. A squiddy is characterized by wildly weaving in and out of traffic and doing stunts on public roads (wheelies, stoppies, etc.) Often seen wearing a colorful full face helmet, tank top, shorts and flip flops. Approach with caution … squiddies are unable to distinguish between reality and their video game inspired Biker Boyz fantasies.

* Thanks to Joe Stiver for suggesting this term.

It Is Sunday!

Good Sunday Morning! The coffee is strong and hot! I am to meet a couple friends for breakfast, then together we will head to the meeting place for this years 29th Annual Toy Run. The organizers are anticipating some 900 bikers to be present for the charity event.

Ethan played his last home game Friday night. They have one game left but it is away, and on Saturday afternoon. He has had a nice four year H.S. career, and it is sad to see it end. Yet soon we will have the chance to watch him step into a new season of his life. Here’s a few photos! Have a safe Sunday!

Good Morning All! Have A Great Sunday!

Good Sunday Morning to all of my friends and those not so friendly. A cool start to my morning, but by early afternoon things will be heating up quite nicely. I hope you have a memorable day!
Wait! Coffee has finished brewing!
OK, I am back.

Ethan attended Southeastern High Schools Homecoming with the daughter of Michelle’s friend. They looked so cute! The scoop; Ethan attends an inner city school with a reputation most schools with that branding carry; shootings, drugs, rough, war zone, etc, although most of the rep is undeserved! Southeastern H.S. is a country school, farm boys, tractors, 4H, etc. Two worlds collide! Both kids are well behaved and I am certain all went well. Ethan got home as I was heading to bed, so I will let you know how it turned out.

Last night Jonathan and I took an unexpected ride. We jumped on the bikes and before I knew it we were almost to Cincinnati. While stopped for fuel, we met a biker who was riding to Charleston W.Va. from his home in Dallas, a trip of approximately 1200 miles. He was sitting on the curb at the truck stop, smoking a cigar (my kind of guy) looking a little road worn. We talked for 15 minutes or so, and as we parted company and headed back on the road, I couldn’t help but to feel a tinge of jealousy towards our new friend.

TO DO LIST:
Grocery
Cut Grass
Help Michelle with the Fall decorations
Pay bills

Have A Great Day

This Sunday will be a little unusual for me, because I won’t be able to sit around and a drink coffee, read the paper, and watch Charles Osgood, like all the rest of you sorry saps! “I am a biker for God’s sake!” I’ve got the road calling me, wind in my hair, bugs in my teeth, kind of thing going on! I can’t be wasting time drinking coffee! OK, the truth is , my wife, and I are taking a nice, leisurely, Sunday ride, through the backroads of Ohio, and Kentucky, in order to look at all the pretty trees. I will see you when I get back! Have a coffee for me!
