The incident was reported at around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday at a large rally of off-road motorcycles and motorcycles near the intersection of Aramingo Avenue and Butler Street.
Police said they were responding to a call from a “person with a gun”.
Authorities said Angel Rodriguez, 21, of Wissanoming, was riding his off-road motorcycle when another man on a motorcycle shot him in the head.
The shooter then fled, officials said.
The suspect was wearing a dark hoodie and a face mask.
The victim was declared dead on the spot.
Rodriguez’s family said he was passionate about motorcycles.
“It was his ability. Everyone has the ability to do something in life, and it was theirs. Everyone who had motorcycles was looking for him to fix their motorcycle,” said the victim’s mother, Jackeline Martinez.
Police said the victim was at the scene to watch illegal car races and someone filmed the shooting and posted it online.
This video haunts Angel Rodriguez’s family.
“Stop putting in so many videos, stop making fun of the dead afterwards,” Martinez said.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward, but prosecutors are struggling to find witnesses to do so.
Chief Homicide Attorney Chelsey Lightsey said there were plenty of witnesses.
“There were 50 or more people who took pictures of the deceased and we have a lot of videos, but not a single person who was there showed up to help the police,” Lightsey said.
