Street parking usually means a lack of charging infrastructure, hence the need for removable and / or exchangeable batteries.

Battery swap networks like KYMCO’s Ionex system allow riders to go to one of the many charging / swap stations spread across a city and simply swap an empty battery for a new one.

KYMCO has just announced that it has signed with the manufacturers Super SOCO and FELO Technologies. Together, the group will create new electric motorcycles and scooters designed around KYMCO’s Ionex battery platform.

While this marks a major breakthrough for KYMCO’s Ionex battery standard, the company still has a long way to go to catch up with the Gogoro Network battery exchange platform.

Gogoro’s swappable battery standard predates KYMCO’s by several years and is currently the largest battery swap network in the world.

In Taiwan, the headquarters of Gogoro and KYMCO, cyclists can choose from over 2,000 interchange stations. Runners in Taipei are never more than one kilometer (0.6 mile) from an interchange station.

There, exchange stations are also used to reduce the price of Gogoro scooters, which are purchased with Gogoro retaining ownership of the batteries. The resulting reduced price lowers the barrier to entry for drivers to switch to electric scooters and motorcycles.

Gogoro has also just announced major agreements with Indian manufacturer Hero (the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer), as well as with Chinese manufacturers Yadea (the world’s largest manufacturer of electric two-wheelers) and DCJ (the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles). largest two-wheeler manufacturer in China).

These deals give Gogoro access to the huge markets of India and China, more than a third of the world’s runners.
