Carrier Transicold is introducing four high-performance trailer refrigeration units that offer double-digit improvements in energy efficiency and lifetime compliance with California Air Resources Board emissions requirements, according to the company.
The systems include two single-temperature units, the Vector 8700 and X4 7700, and two multi-temperature units, the Vector 8800MT and Vector 8811MT. All reduce particulate emissions by 96% over current offerings and, depending on the application, improve fuel efficiency by 5 to 20%, Carrier Transicold officials said in a press release.
The units will be available to order later this year for delivery in 2023, which will help fleets operating in California that add units next year and will be subject to CARB’s newly amended airborne toxics control measure for transport refrigeration units, officials said.
The units take advantage of an advanced version of the Kubota engine used on Carrier Transicold’s existing trailer platforms. Among its attributes, the intelligent 24 hp engine:
- Features clean engine technologies including common rail fuel injection, an improved fuel filtration system and a diesel oxidation catalyst that push particulate, hydrocarbon and NOx emissions to new low levels .
- Provides lifetime regulatory compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Tier 4 emission standards and CARB’s stricter ATCM for TRUs which comes into effect May 31, 2023.
- Achieves double-digit fuel economy through optimized fuel delivery of common rail fuel injection and the introduction of a third engine speed, called “eco speed”, which automatically lowers the engine speed below low revs when conditions permit, to help improve fuel efficiency.
“Our premium performance units don’t require complex exhaust gas recirculation to meet emissions goals,” said Steven McDonald, trailer product manager, Truck Trailer Americas. “Unlimited CARB compliance means no additional exhaust treatment is ever needed, based on current regulations.”
All four models also use R 452A, a next-generation CARB-compliant refrigerant with 45% lower global warming potential than traditional TRU refrigerant, R 404A. Additionally, all are equipped with Carrier Transicold’s telematics solution for remote monitoring of system temperatures, location, movements and operating performance. To help maintain battery charge supporting the unit and its telematics system, Carrier Transicold now also offers its TRU-Mount solar panel as a factory-installed option.
Carrier Transicold’s Vector units feature E-Drive all-electric refrigeration architecture.
