Clash in Liberia: Eagles list released this week

• Chukwueze, Iwobi about to return

SUPER EAGLES The list of players for next month’s Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde will be released this week, a Nigerian Football Federation team official said.

The Eagles will travel to face the Lone Star on November 11 in Tangier, Morocco, before hosting Cape Verde three days later at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

Liberia plays its home matches in Morocco, as CAF has not approved its stadium for the qualifiers.

Eagles media official Femi Raji said Additional Sport PUNCH that the NFF is putting the finishing touches on the arrangements for the match, adding that the coach, Gernot Rohr, is also in contact with the players to continue the matches.

“The list is expected to be released this week, no later than next week Monday,” Raji said.

“We just have to wait for the NFF to release the final list before we make a decision.”

Our correspondent has learned that Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze and Everton striker Alex Iwobi are set to return to the squad after missing the matches against the Central African Republic over two sets.

Chukwueze returned to action last week after being out for five months. The Nigeria international has made three substitute matches since his return, scoring one goal. Last season, he had four goals and three assists in 28 games.

Iwobi, meanwhile, also made two appearances for the Toffees, which ended in losses (to West Ham and Watford).

It was also understood that the Eagles’ camp is set to open on November 8 in Lagos, before they travel 48 hours later.

Rohr is expected to include Napoli’s top scorer Victor Osimhen, Ahmed Musa, William Troost-Ekong, Leon Balogun, Joe Aribo, Frank Onyeka and Ola Aina in his squad for the draw.

Nigeria beat Liberia 2-0 in Lagos in September to kick off their World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Super Eagles lead Group C with nine points, while Cape Verde is second with seven points. The Central African Republic is third with four points, while Liberia is in last place with three points.
