Donny Van De Beek treated himself to a Manchester United escape by a top Premier League player

Everton director of football Marcel Brands has confirmed the club are interested in signing Manchester United outlaw Donny Van de Beek this summer and may consider doing so again in January.

The Toffees are rumored to be close to signing the Dutchman on loan in the final days of the August transfer window, but were unable to close the deal.

“We had him (Van de Beek) on our list,” Brands told the Dutch broadcaster. NO, quoted by the Daily Mail. “At the start of the transfer, we investigated United and then it was impossible.

“At the end of the counter, I got a call from Guido Albers, his agent, to finally get it on loan. But at the last minute it was canceled. Still arrested.”

When asked if he and his manager Rafael Benítez would rekindle their interest in the 24-year-old in less than three months, Brands said it was too early to tell.

“You always depend on the willingness of a club to cooperate,” he continued. “And it’s early October, so much can still happen with injuries. United play on multiple fronts. It’s hard to say now.”

Since arriving at Old Trafford last summer, Van de Beek has only made 39 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and assisting twice. His frustration with his lack of playing time manifested itself in the Red Devils’ Champions League victory over Villarreal, in which the former Ajax player threw his gum on the ground after n ‘have not been chosen as the next replacement by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær. .

Brands, who has been pulling the strings behind the scenes at Goodison Park since 2018, admits it’s a shame to see the struggling midfielder.

“Of course it’s a shame for Donny,” added the former PSV Eindhoven football manager. “He’s a very good player, there’s no doubt about it.

“Such a boy wants to play and wants to come back to the Dutch national team. But you know that in such a club the pressure is great and the competition is enormous.”

Could Van de Beek join Phil Neville, Darron Gibson, Louis Saha, Tom Cleverley and a certain Wayne Rooney to go from Manchester red to Merseyside blue?

Stranger things have happened.
