Even Projektmelody is not excluded from Twitch’s new nudity and dress policy

Hopefully, now that the policy is clearer and more specific, moderation of it is just as easy and understandable.

After months of criticism for banning streamers without properly stating the reason for the sanction, beyond a dress code violation, Twitch has finally produced a new and more robust nudity and dress policy. It also contains updates to explain in more detail what the platform considers unacceptable in terms of sexually suggestive content.

In the past, Twitch has been very unspecific with its dress code, simply stating that streamers should wear clothing “appropriate for being in public.” Since their version of this and the Streamers’ interpretation differed wildly, they finally came up with a new, more comprehensive set of guidelines.

These now state that the streamers should “cover the area extending from your waist to the bottom of your pelvis and butt.” Women should also “cover their nipples and bust”. More interestingly, the rules now state that “the cleavage is not restricted as long as these coverage requirements are met.” However, sheer clothing is now officially banned with the policy stating that “For areas of the body where coverage is required, coverage must be fully opaque; sheer or partially transparent clothing does not constitute coverage.”

The guidelines for sexually suggestive content have also been clarified. While most are expected, such as a ban on real or simulated sexual content, the most surprising point is that the policy now also includes a ban on “focusing the camera on the breasts, buttocks or pelvic region,” including poses that deliberately highlight these elements. “There are content exceptions, including body art, swimming, beaches and breastfeeding, as well as some IRL or educational content.

One of the biggest controversies surrounding the nudity policy lately was not just the ban on streamers not knowing how they violated it, but also Chaturbate‘s Projektmelody instant partnership. This bizarre decision seemed to suggest that sexual content was banned unless there was a lot of money for Twitch.

Now, it looks like even the suggestive anime character will have to keep their content online as the policy applies to “embedded media, augmented reality, creative shows, and channel content.” He also states that “augmented reality avatars that translate real movements into digital characters are subject to this standard, as are cosplay and other costumes.”

Hopefully, now that the policy is clearer and more specific, moderation of it is just as easy and understandable.
