DETROIT, Michigan January 2022 (Plato Data Intelligence) – Heartland and Ravago Americas have signed a joint development agreement to create the next generation of plastic resins. This collaboration aims to drive material innovation for companies that purchase large volumes of plastic. Heartland’s additives will help these manufacturers reduce the cost, weight and carbon footprint of the raw materials they depend on every day.
Ravago is one of the largest recyclers, processors and distributors of plastics in the world. Ravago and its subsidiaries serve more than 50,000 customers worldwide through 325 facilities in 55 countries. Each year, they supply more than 6.6 million tons of polymers and rubber. Heartland is building America’s first reliable industrial supply chain to supply additives to manufacturers who use plastics.
By harnessing carbon-negative, renewable plastic additives like industrial hemp, Ravago can deliver composite products that are stronger, lighter, cheaper and more durable. Not only will these plastics have improved thermal and acoustic properties, but Heartland’s hemp additives will help extend the life of Ravago’s materials that use recycled content.
Heartland’s engineered additives reduce the carbon footprint of virgin plastics by up to 44%. Heartland is also focused on verifying the impact of hemp-filled recycled plastics compared to traditional virgin plastics which are typically composed of mineral fillers like talc and calcium carbonate.
Heartland worked alongside Ravago to engineer their hemp-based materials as renewable additives for plastics. Ravago’s R&D team has guided Heartland in engineering products that do not require additional retooling costs for plastic mixers and molders.
After the 2022 agricultural cycle, Heartland estimates that it will be able to process over 100,000,000 pounds of additives that will be available for plastic compounding. Ravago and Heartland will continue to research and develop products for automotive, packaging, building materials and other markets.
About Ravago:
The Ravago Group represents more than 6.6 million metric tons of annual polymer sales serving more than 50,000 active customers through more than 325 locations in more than 55 countries around the world. Ravago’s production competence consists of more than 45 manufacturing sites (recycling and compounding plants; production plants for the construction sector; and plants and laboratories for its chemical activity). None of this would have been possible without the help of its 8,000 employees. For more information, visit https://www.ravago.com.
About Heartland:
Heartland is a biotechnology company that designs fibers as additives for plastics. Their team is building America’s first reliable industrial supply chain to supply additives to manufacturers who use plastic resins. As a processor of industrial materials, they work with farmers and manufacturers to ensure consistency of bio-based additive products that can be used in raw material supply chains. Heartland’s products help companies manufacture with stronger, lighter, cheaper and more durable materials. For more information, visit https://www.heartland.io.
