NEW YORK (CBSNew York) – A passenger was arrested after a Republic Airways flight made an emergency landing at LaGuardia Airport Saturday afternoon.
It happened just after 3 p.m.
Port authority police said other passengers reported the individual was behaving suspiciously and erratically.
Republic Airways issued the following statement:
“A Republic Airways aircraft, operating as the American 4817, declared an emergency and landed at New York’s LaGuardia Airport without incident in response to passenger behavior towards the end of the flight. Upon exiting the active runway, the aircraft came to rest on a taxiway and performed a preventive emergency evacuation. Our crew responded to the situation in accordance with our procedures and with professionalism and concern for the safety of everyone on board. Law enforcement and first responders encountered the plane and the passenger involved in the incident was taken into custody. We apologize to our passengers for this disruption to their trips. “
According to the Port Authority police, the passenger who behaved suspiciously has been arrested and is being questioned. Other passengers who were seated near the individual were also questioned.
A video posted on social media shows Port Authority agents appearing to search a man lying face down on the tarmac.
No injuries were reported. There were a total of 76 passengers and six crew members on the flight.
The investigation is ongoing.
