BOISE, Idaho (AP) – Brad Roberts rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns, the Air Force defense put in another stifling performance and the Falcons knocked out Boise State 24-17 on Saturday night.

Air Force (6-1, 3-1 Mountain West Conference), which hasn’t started a season as well since 2002, when the Falcons started the season 6-0 before ending 8-5, ended a four-game losing streak against the Bronco.

Boise State (3-4, 1-2) lost their third home game of the season, the first time since 1998. It’s also the first time the Broncos have lost three straight home games since 1997.

After falling behind early, the Air Force used the nation’s best rush attack to crush Boise State and take a 21-14 halftime lead.

McKenly O’Neal missed a 30-yard field goal with 11:38 remaining that would have given the Air Force a two-goal lead, but he scored a 28-yard goal after Boise State missed a punt on his own 15-yard line with 2:49 left to go to take the Falcons’ lead to 24-14.

The Broncos got a 37-yard field goal from Jonah Dalmas with 49 seconds left and recovered the side kick, but Tre Bug picked Bachmeier on the first down – sparking a wild celebration along the sideline. ‘Air Force that spread to the ground and drew five unsportsmanlike sanctions.

Bachmeier finished with 259 passing yards and one touchdown in the loss.

Air Force: With the win, the Falcons are in first place to represent the Mountain Division in the Mountain West Championship game for the first time in school history. With their toughest conference game remaining at home against San Diego State, the Air Force will lose just after midseason.

Boise State: The Broncos’ mystique on the blue turf seems to be fading, if not completely disappearing. And while Boise State have faced tough opponents at home this season, their glaring shortcomings in ball handling and offensive halftime adjustments keep the team on a mediocre trajectory, something the schedule isn’t. used to.

Air Force: The Falcons host San Diego State next Saturday.

Boise State: The Broncos travel to Colorado State on October 30.
