Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) fire fighting vehicles and firefighters from Navi Mumbai were on the scene.
The fire started at a rubber factory around 4 p.m. and spread to a nearby chemical company and a cold store. Thick black smoke from the rubber factory enveloped the area, making firefighting and rescue operations difficult, officials said.
